I couldn't have asked for better subjects when considering my 100th stranger photo! I met Vee ( on knees with tongue out) of the band The Hamburglars at my favorite Berwyn bar Cigars and Stripes. Vee plays in a number of bands. He was on stage before the Hamburglars with a great female singer named Ellie Maybe. She has an awesome voice!

From Left to Right:

Vee, Darrick (Lead Singer), Simon (Beard -Drums), and Vince.

I am going to miss this project so much! It has been a great deal of fun working on finding people willing to spend a moment with me.

The project has opened my eyes again - about faith, humanity, goodness in people.

Sometimes you go through life with your head down - rushing from work to home - and you don't stop to enjoy the world around us.

The next best thing about this project is that I have become a Super Fan of many Talented Wonderful Photographers out there! I spend a majority of my on-line time enjoying the photos of Contacts - everyone has their own unique style!

I hope to find a similar project again. I'll miss you!

Girl 99 and her little dog Toto too

The days are shorter, the weather is colder, and I just haven't had time to stop and smell the roses.

Work has been so hectic lately it's ridunkulous. I always have my camera but I never feel comfortable enough to stop and ask people for photos. I'm always in a rush.

I normally like taking pictures in natural light. My ideal canvasing time was usually after work and now it's dark in Chicago by 4:00 p.m.

My weekends are busy with kids stuff and family time. It's been rather difficult to get out and take photos.

I was walking home from work and saw this young lady near the Metra station with her doggie in a matching coat. I could not pass-up the photo opp.

Her ride was coming and she was getting her luggage ready to get in the car so I didn't get a chance to ask for her name.

She did tell me her dogs name so that I could call it to look at the camera. I cannot remember the dog's name at this time. It was a bit unusual.

This is Candy, she was selling Obama shirts today the day after the Election.

Candy's cute face caught my eye but I liked this photo the best. She was very sweet and posed or a few photos which I took in the wrong setting.

I had to start over and she was nice enough to pose again. People were snatching up everything Obama today. The Chicago Sun-Times was sold out until the second run was pushed out at noon.

This is Scott Angle Lead Singer for the country band Fulton County Line. He was at the Park West on Friday October 24th playing at a benefit concert for Our Lady of Victory Elementary School. We had hoped to catch our favorite rockabilly band Iron Horse but we were too late.

Scott and his band were a great consolation prize though. Scott is from Chicago but now lives in Austin, Texas.

Meet Anthony, I saw him while taking my boys home. They made a visit to my office today and I had to leave early to take the older one to his Fall League baseball game.

Anthony was sitting with two other friends when I approached him. I asked for his permission for a photo and I think he thought I meant a photo shoot because at first he seemed uninterested.

Anthony is actually a model / hair designer / hair stylist. It shows in his comfort in the few photos I took. I wish I had a job that allowed me to color my hair like this. Maybe a darker shade of Blue.

I have been out of it for awhile. So many things going on at work and at home. Whenever I stop taking photos on a daily basis it gets extremely hard for me to ask strangers again.

Thank you Anthony. You were extremely friendly . Hope you like the photos!

This is Nate, he was waiting for a bus to Ann Harbor, Michigan.

SITC: "Hi, can I take your portrait?"
Nathan:"Sure, for what purposes?"
SITC: "Artistic"
SITC - hands Nathan a Moo Card
SITC: "So where are you headed?"
Nathan: "Ann Harbor"
SITC: "You can look away for some photos. thanks"
SITC: " One more, so where are you from?"
Nathan: "Do you mind wrapping it up now?"
SITC: "Sure , thank you for your time, have a safe trip"

- Ouch - I had a bit of heartburn today. Maybe it showed on my face. I tried another great looking ( a bit sad ) couple sitting with their heads leaned against each other. They turned me down. After that it was time to run home for some Pepto.

My lunch was great but maybe a tad too spicy. Thanks for your time Nathan! I hope you enjoy the photo :)

Met Shaun and John. I saw them hanging out with a girl while waiting for a "BIG BUS" on Canal. I wanted to take a candid photo of the girl they were with because she was laying flat on her back near the bus stop while rubbing her stomach and talking on the phone. By the time I got close enough she had already stood up.

John was on his way to Indianapolis. They both were cool about posing for a photo. They mentioned something about Guns and I guess thats what " Chaos Mafia" is all about.

There is something about that style of hairdo that drives me wild :)

Work has been a bear for me lately. It's budget time and I have been working late. The summer is over and the sunlight is gone by 6:30 p.m. ( while I'm still at work ).

I took a week off for my birthday and I found myself busier than ever with family stuff.

I took my boys to the Route 66 Car Show this past Saturday and I ran into this fellow at Cigars and Stripes.

Met Count Midnight. He was just hanging around ( in the sunlight no less!) and enjoying the music and cars.

Count Midnight has his own Horror TV Show on Cable Access in Joliet. I've never seen or heard of him but now I am dying ( no pun intended) to watch his show!

Jordan

Jordan, originally uploaded by Subject is too Cute.

Met Jordan, I saw him chilling out near the Metra station. He was tapping away with his drumsticks when I approached him.

This is the first of a personal project for me. My main goal is to get some feedback on how people feel about the increase in crime / murders in Chicago. It seems like people are shooting each other on a daily basis.

Jordan: Has lived in Chicago for the last two (2) years. I told him that I consider him to be an official Chicagoan.

He told me about the shootings he has heard about in Humboldt Park. He was interesting in moving in that area until he heard that a friend of a friend was shot and killed on a street corner. The friend of a friend was possibly not an innocent victim but was doing a "favor" for someone and lost his life.

Jordan later found out that area he was looking to move into was considered a "Hot Zone" and that the person recommending the area to him advised him of a friend being assaulted while riding a bike. Apparently the person was hit on the back of the head with a crowbar.

Jordon currently lives in Pilsen ( 18th / Halsted ). I told him that Pilsen was where I grew up. The area has changed so much and I told him a few stories of the gang wars (shootings) that I witnessed growing up there on the borderline between rival gangs. The area has cooled down and is now very trendy with many Artists and Students. Most of the gangs from that area have moved to the suburbs.

Jordon is originally from Bloomington-Normal, IL. The most exciting thing that happened in that area was one teen that had a gun and was holding himself hostage. Jordan said that most of the teens there were wanna-be gang members and not actually in gangs.

Jordan is attending class at the SAIC ( School of the Art Institute ) and his studying sound engineering.

The obvious question was if he was in a band. Jordan said he was not but he does have aspirations on joining a Jazz Band. He is practicing in preparation for his ideal group which would consist of experienced band members in their 40s.

Jordan was a great person to chat with for a bit and he was enjoying the day. He said most of the people he saw passing by had "good vibes" about them.

Thanks Jordan! I hope you enjoy the few photos I took!

This was one of those "Must Have" Photo moments. I saw Demetri and Jen walking towards the Chicago Water Tower Place and missed a chance to ask them. I later saw them on the way back South on the Mag Mile.

I told them they looked like Rock Stars while they waited to cross the street. I asked them if they would mind walking back towards the background I wanted. They were nice enough to do so :)

I tried to guess where they were from ( well I was pretty much 100 % percent sure they were from California ) and they responded that they were indeed from L.A.

Only a couple from Cali could pull off the look they had - they did it so well :) - Check out the Dude's shoes!

This is Monique, I was hanging out on the Mag Mile when she walked by. I thought she looked fabulous so I stopped her and complimented her blouse. I handed her a moo card that you can see in her hand here. She smiled and thanked me with a bit of an accent. I don't think she realized that I wanted to take her photo until I asked again. She seemed hesitant to pose and said that maybe it would be best to take one as she was walking. I had to run in front of her to get to get a few shots. I'm not crazy about having people in the background but I loved Monique's look.

After I Monique walked away a woman came up to me and asked me who she was. She thought that she was someone famous since I was taking her photo. She also said that Monique looked scary which I hope she meant "intimidating" because I think Monique is pretty attractive.

It's wonderful to see them practice. You hear a "Boom" 30 seconds before you see planes zoom by. The best place to enjoy the Air and Water show is on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building. I plan on being there this year :D

Amazing Dana! I first saw Dana's awesome fuzzy Kangol hat with sunglasses perched on top. I love Kangol hats.

Dana was drinking coffee and having a smoke with a friend. I approached them and introduced myself - all the while realizing how Beautiful this possible subject was.

Dana was more than happy to pose for a few photos. I asked her to look away and act like I wasn't there and then asked for a couple looking at the camera - her eyes are stunning.

Dana told me she is a P.I. from Florida(?) enjoying the sights in Chicago. I told her she had the perfect look for her own T.V. show.

Dana said people always expect her deal with Private Investigation action like "Dog the Bounty Hunter" or the people on "Cheaters" - which she says is nothing like the real deal.

I was having a hard time finding willing strangers on the day that I met Deep. I had been shot down and after about 30 waiting for one subject to get off the phone only to be turned down I changed my strategy.

I chose the background I wanted and looked for a taller person. I originally wanted to pose a businessman hailing a cab here but I saw Deep and went with him instead.

There was a serious language barrier here as it took me awhile to explain that I wanted him to model for me. I gave him a moo card and he agreed. He was cool even with a friend waiting.

I asked him to not look directly into the camera. I did not try to get more info from him because of our language barrier but I asked for the correct spelling of his name.

Cool name - DEEP - thanks for your time :D

Aside from his interesting hair I noticed Dani's tattoo! I love the 'barcode" concept. It reminds me of those cool Sci-Fi movies with the Big Brother theme.

Dani was on a break with some co-workers when I walked up and asked to take a photo of the tattoo. I asked him if his barcode meant anything in particular and one of his male co-workers said something about scanning him and the computer reading "Box of 24 tampons" or something in that nature.

I then asked for a portrait of Dani and he seemed a bit surprised about it but "jokingly" posed for one.

Timing Timing Timing! What luck! I walked over to take photos of the statue and when I was heading back to my car I saw Mrs. International outside the studio speaking with her husband and family.

I approached them and introduced myself. She was more than happy to let me take a photo and even broke out the sash! She had it tucked away in a special bag and took the time and trouble to put it on! What a sweetheart!

She was Mrs. California in 2006 and moved up to Mrs. International in 2007!

While enjoying some alone time at the Maxwell Street Market today I met the Maxwell Street Blues Band. They were jamming at the entrance near Canal and 16th Street. It's been a while since I was lucky enough to catch a blues band at the market.

Ice Mike was my photo target today. His hat, sunglasses, and goatee fit the Blues Mold to a T.

Ice Mike enticed some Latino listeners with a few strums of La Bamba. If they actually played the entire tune the crowd would have gone wild.

I then took photos of the other members and found it difficult to choose the Stranger Photo I would submit. Sticking to my original interest I have post Ice Mike's photo but I hope you enjoy the photos of John and Dan.

Prison Tears and Newly Found Freedom

This is Jose. I noticed his "tear drop" tattoo and half closed eye. He was waiting for someone near an unmarked box and a a paper bag full of what seemed to be clothes.

At first I thought he was giving stuff away like advertising employees usually do in this area. I thought about that again - the "tear drop" tat ruled that out. He was also very watchful of his belongings. He had the ability to size me up and all of the many people walking around the loop at that time.

I introduced myself and mentioned his tattoo. I asked him if those were indeed prison tattoos. Yes they were - and he just got out today-he was waiting for his family to take him home. When I asked if I could take his photo he agreed but asked to borrow my phone first. He connected with his family and they were now on the right track.

He said he was in Vandalia ( I think? ). He said it was very far away. He did time for "drugs" and mentioned that he had a lot of tattoos. He started to show me one on his stomach but thought better of it because of the many people walking around.

I thanked him and as I was leaving he asked " You're not a cop are you?"
He has a moo card so I hope he enjoys the few photos I took - excuse the - not so perfect background -

Not in Kansas Anymore

This is Dorothy. She reminded me of a woman that my mother used to take care of. Her name was Victoria. A woman that still dressed as she did when she was younger. Victoria was at one time a lounge singer. It was a blast listening to her sing old songs. I have great memories of Victoria - she was like someone out of a time-machine.

I don't usually like to taking photos of people down on their luck or asking for money. It' just not my thing. Dorothy's sign caught my eye and I thought I'd share it. One would hope that people asking for change wouldn't lie about their situation or exaggerate. This sign had so much - Hunger / Burned Down Home / Murder / Robbery / Injured and Beaten.

I gave her a dollar and asked for a photo. She said o.k. but advised me that another man had given her $20 for a photo. I tried to ask her about her situation " I'm sorry about your family - what happened? " her response was " what does the sign say? " She then said that a "man" killed her family in Peterson Park. She didn't seem interested in discussing her past present or future with me so I took two photos and shook her hand. She smiled nicely at me and I could see something very sweet in her eyes underneath the shades.

Svengoolie

Svengoolie, originally uploaded by Subject is too Cute.

I had the incredible luck of meeting another childhood hero today! Svengoolie, or previously known as Son of Svengoolie! He was in Berwyn today for it's 100th birthday celebration parade! He was nice enough to take a few photos.

Svengoolie has hosted his cheesy television show for years. I watched his program as a child and enjoyed all of the Godzilla / Dracula / Wolfman / Frankenstein flicks mixed with Svengoolie's brand of humor. He put Berwyn on the map with a sound board effect that says "Berwwwwwwyn???" whenever he read viewer mail.

Tony - Brothers in Blue

Meet Tony. He is a Chicago Police Officer and member of the Motorcycle group Brothers in Blue. I met him as I was going in for some knee rehabilitation. He was happy to pose for a few photos. He took my card and said he would contact me when they have their next Motorcycle run.

I'm getting to that age where I need to push for my dream Harley!

Olya Meek

Olya Meek, originally uploaded by Subject is too Cute.

This is Olya Meek - Lead Singer for the Bulgarian Rock Group "Voice of Glass". Her voice is incredible! They were at Cigars and Stripes and played their first set acoustically because their drummer had some personal issues. They met a friend of a friend who was a drummer in the area and within two hours he learned two of their songs. He was able to be the hero for the second set which Rocked Out!

Olya was super sweet and took time to meet and great everyone in the bar. Most of her fans had the Pilsner Urquell flowing! As did I :P
